What Should've Won the Oscar: 1987

Everyone loves the 80s, right? Let's look back and who won and who should've won.

The Winner

The Last Emperor

The Nominations

Broadcast News

Fatal Attraction

Hope and Glory

Moonstruck

Other Films from 1987

Wall Street

Good Morning, Vietnam

The Untouchables

Full Metal Jacket

Babette's Feast

Dirty Dancing

The Princess Bride

Beverly Hills Cop II

Lethal Weapon

RoboCop

Predator

My Two Cents

As is evident from this list, 1987 isn't remembered for its artsy movies but rather for its action blockbusters. Not surprised that movies like RoboCop and Predator didn't win, but those are the ones that have had the most staying power. If it were up to me, Moonstruck would've won Best Picture.

Your Pick

Let me know in the comments what movie you would have picked for Best Picture of 1987 and don't forget to tell me why!

Oh I actually love Broadcast News. Maybe it's not Best Picture fare but it's great. Obvs Full Metal Jacket should have gotten nommed, but the Academy was (is?) full of pearl-clutchers

I didn't actually see the winner, so I can't say that one didn't deserve it, but of the ones I saw, I'd give it to Full Metal Jacket.

This is a year where I've not seen a lot of the nominees. The Last Emperor is pretty great, but I'm struck by what a good year this was for the more pulpy fare. Robocop, Lethal Weapon, Predator, and The Princess Bride have all lived on my screens over and over throughout the years.

Crazy that Full Metal Jacket didn't get a Best Picture nom! But if I had my way I would have picked Good Morning Vietnam, mainly because i love Robin Williams
