Full Metal Jacket (1987)★ 8.2/10

waooosss

This is the best anti-war film I've ever seen. The director directly expresses the price of war. A war correspondent wearing a peace badge yet sporting a helmet inscribed with "born to kill" embodies the internal struggles people at war face, inviting viewers to delve deeper.

Initially, I thought the film was merely a war documentary exploring human depravity. However, it surprised me. What drives soldiers to kill isn't mindless mechanical execution but the suppression of humanity over time. This humanity fuels their killing drive and each soldier's internal conflict.

Another masterpiece of a movie by Kubrick. But now it's in the war genre.

Prime example of editing and sountrack and a damn good script. What's most impressive about it is it's not really the killing and the blood and the war that lingers in our minds, but the stuff that we can almost "touch" as civilians. The hair-shaving scene. The ending. God, the Mickey Mouse song scene irks me to this day. What a movie.

Torture, stress and lack of tranquility: this is the daily life of an American soldier. No one who watched “Full Metal Jacket” ended up willing to join the military.
