"I can't do it alone. I want a home." -- Yes, this is a very emotional and touching movie, but I mostly just want that house. It's gorgeous.
If I Had Legs I'd Kick You (2025)

What’s the worst thing that’s ever happened to you? What’s the worst thing that’s happened to you today? These questions were posed by writer/director Mary Bronstein to introduce her new A24 movie called IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU. Like me, you probably just chuckled. The more I think about it, the title is actually perfect. It encapsulates the tone of this panic attack of a movie so well. At times it’s humorous, but it's mostly drama with very heavy subject matter and themes. It’s about the unraveling of Linda (Rose Byrne), a therapist and worn-down mother of an ill child. A ceiling in their home collapses, starting a chaotic chain reaction of stress-inducing events. Metaphorically, she keeps having her legs kicked out from under her, hence the amazing title. This is a really well-done movie. The metaphors and symbolism are top-notch, not being too obvious or preachy. The script keeps pace while it’s shot with a lot of close-ups. Rose Byrne gives us an award-worthy performance. It’s harrowing, raw, and relatable. A lot is put on a mother’s shoulders, including blame and shame. They are the closest thing to superheroes that we can get. Hell, this is a superhero movie. Conan O’Brian is in this! Playing Linda’s therapist, he actually does a great job. So does ASAP Rocky as Linda’s neighbor. The director herself knows that this movie won’t resonate with all audiences, but I think it’ll definitely hit the people it’s aiming for. IF I HAD LEGS I’D KICK YOU isn’t going to be on my rewatch list, but it packs a lot into so many punches.
It Was Just an Accident (2025)

It opens and closes strong, but I struggled to connect with the road in-between. I felt detached from the characters, and even when they are speaking of horrific things, their delivery comes off as one-note. Some comedic moments work, but overall the mix of tones was uncomfortable to me.

Orwell: 2+2=5 (2025)

It's undoubtedly incredibly effective, and the message is important, but that in itself doesn't make a great film. For a documentary, I didn't find that I walked away with any new information, barring the history of Orwell's life. The messages about being wary of misinformation, turning a blind eye to human cruelty and desensitization to violence are pertinent, but it feels like Peck is trying to prove something with this doc. What exactly that is, I'm not sure. That said, I felt utter despair by the end of it, so it can't be said that it fails in its mission

The film does a great job of combining nostalgia, innocence, dread, and wonder. The story has some hard twists in terms of tone, but they always seem to flow organically from the mind of 11-year-old Fuki (with a great performance by Yui Suzuki). Renoir has many great things going for it, but it doesn't do enough to separate itself from other coming-of-age films.

Amazing film with the right balance of comedy, drama, tension and longing. Denise Weinberg as Tereza gives a great performance, and that combines with the cinematography and story to create some poetic moments. The story drags a bit during the second act, but it picks up again by the end for a really cool conclusion. Don't skip this one!

A movie by cinephiles for cinephiles. If you love movies and are interested in the movie-making process, watch this film! Or if you just love Paris.

One Battle After Another
Written and Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson
Based on the novel Vineland by Thomas Pynchon.

If you are willing to go though a nightmarish and chaotic alternative United States, that is the film for you. A satire of the consequences of when a country's divisive political climate goes absolutely too far. The writing of Paul Thomas Anderson is manifested as usual through characters with rich subtext that reflect the collective paranoid amid a totalitarian state, which intentions are ambiguous but reflect an intolerance on racial diversity. Although, the story explores racial violence and a Totalitarian dystopia, the characters are presented cartoonishly as the consequence of the absurd chaos triggered by the political environment that may intentionally mirrors today but just a little bit more chaotic. In reality, the plot unintentionally mirrors the current political tension, since this film is loosely adapts Vineland by Thomas Pynchon. PTA manages to expand the micro universe of the plot to a larger scale, not just though the resurrected VistaVision format, but also a storyline that gives time to breath to the basic main motivation of the story, Bob Ferguson rescuing his daughter along with his challenge to reconnect with her amid a situation capable of destroying or reinforcing family ties, if it is desired.

Get to watch a young Paul Rudd. Worth it for that. Some pretty decent kills too. Just don't expect narrative excellence.

A brilliant film, and one that I avoided for too long. I watched this at a festival, and it became clear to me why this made the Sight and Sound list of the best films ever made. Buster Keaton plays a Confederate soldier who is determined to make it across enemy lines with a train that often seems to have a mind of its own. Its physical gags and twists and turns are still remarkable and I would recommend it to anyone attempting to understand the appeal of the silent film.

"This film, definitely, is an example of the lack of creativity and research when creating a script and scenes for quality cinema. Both its performances, its shooting, and practically the entire movie, are very mediocre.
Supposedly, it’s a horror, horror-suspense, and mystery film. The only horror it has is its creation. Honestly, its writer, screenwriter, and director are the ones who are frightening for having created such an aberration.
