Just a bundle of simple cute queer joy. The characters are charismatic and the atmosphere is charming. You root for the series’ couples.

An appealing sequel, though not as enjoyable as the first one. The San Francisco setting gives the film a charm.

Mel Gibson and Sissy Spaces have chemistry together, but the film’s slow pacing can be a little tiring. Still, the main themes are encouraging.

Doctor Sleep (2019)
KK AugustJune 22, 2026
Hello there...
Yes, I have written about the prequel, so I have to write about this interesting follow-up. I found a copy of 'Doctor Sleep' in a book box, after telling myself that I was going to give Stephen King's work a break for a while...and found myself totally drawn into a sequel that I did not know I needed. Ewan McGregor as a grown up, alcoholic Danny is an interesting choice, as is Kyliegh Curran as Abra, a young girl with more Shine in her than anyone has seen before. But of course, you have to acknowledge the bad guy, or the bad lady, and Rebecca Ferguson's Rose the Hat is a very nasty piece of work who should be memorialized with other infamous villains in the Stephen King world.
So, enjoy it, and see what a writer and director can do when a good story can be made even better!
The Shining (1980)
KK AugustJune 22, 2026
It was my first Stanley Kubrick film; it was (probably) my second Stephen King adaptation (after 'Salem's Lot'), and I am still wondering about how to talk about it. 'The Shining' is a film of atmosphere, dreams, frustration and isolation...so why do we keep coming back to it? Jack Nicholson is one reason, giving one of the all-time great unhinged performances ever filmed. And then there is Shelley Duvall, unfairly maligned by the critics, and apparently Kubrick, who does her best with the script's clear indifference to her fate. With Danny Lloyd as the gateway to the Shine and Halloran as his guide, this is a mixed bag of incredible filmmaking that needed a bit of tweaking to make it perfect.

make sure you see this in a tiny "theatre" with folding chairs and only a 10 minute intermission. the discomfort you feel will make for a meta 4D experience
Whiplash (2014)
KK AugustJune 20, 2026
It wrecked me, but I was not alone. I watched it with a good friend who happened to be a talented amateur musician, and we had a strong disagreement over whether or not a teacher would behave like this when approaching an important show that would be held at the end of the school year. Maybe I have seen and heard too much, but I understood the motivations of Mr. Fletcher (a well-deserved award-winning performance by J.K. Simmons) and his highly-abused protégé, Andrew (Miles Teller, who also deserved a nod during the awards season). Maybe the structure was predictable, but it is still a film that deserves a second look, my and your respect, and several high notes of praise.
It is my tempo.

The Asphalt Jungle (1950)

Amazing gem of 1950s crime noir. If you love crime/gangster films, this is a must watch. Don't let the year of its release turn you off. Yes, it has a few dated elements (less subtle than modern films), but the characters, cinematography, story are all top quality. John Huston's direction is superb. A very influential film.

Train Dreams (2025)
FFlávia_FerreiraJune 18, 2026
A film about what it feels like to truly live!
Train Dreams feels as if you're looking through a collection of photographs while listening to the memories of the protagonist, Grainier, being narrated.
It's one of those films that are more about what you feel while watching it than about explaining its story. It's beautiful, poetic, and deeply reflective!!!
The film shows how small gestures, environments, and the people we meet gradually shape our lives. It is a story built from memories, the memories of a man who spends much of his life working in remote places, expecting nothing new from existence. But everything changes when he meets Gladys. For the first time, he experiences something different, something profound. At times, he can hardly believe such happiness is real because it feels so peaceful and loving.
Grainier is gentle and reserved. Joel Edgerton portrays him brilliantly, making you reflect on and feel everything his character experiences. His expressions say more than words. You can feel both the pain and the quiet happiness he carries within him.
Gladys, interpreted by Felicity Jones, is like a ray of sunshine whenever she appears on screen. She becomes the character's refuge, but you can also sense that she represents the lightness and beauty of life itself. She and their daughter bring warmth, meaning, and a new perspective to a man who once believed life was nothing more than the passing of days.
The story takes place in the 20s, during the rapid expansion of railroad lines across the United States. Much of the film unfolds within vast forests; as trees are being cut down to make way for transportation routes. The film also touches on the consequences of this relentless deforestation and how it affects the small communities surrounding these areas.
Train Dreams never rushes its events. It follows the natural rhythm of life, allowing everything to happen in its own time. The film speaks about grief, about losing our sense of direction, and about finding our way again while trying to navigate the chaos left behind by the absence of those we love.
The cinematography by Brazilian cinematographer Adolpho Veloso is a lyrical work of art ,breathtaking, moving, and unforgettable. In my opinion , nature and the cinematography are among the film's true protagonists. Every frame feels alive. The use of natural light creates a sense of contemplation, inviting us to admire both the beauty of nature and the lives of these characters. I am an unapologetic admirer of this and many of Adolpho Veloso's other works.
And speaking of nature, it plays a significant role in Grainier's memories; alongside the people he encounters throughout the journey we call life.
Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar wrote a special movie. The whole work is absolutely beautiful.
Train Dreams was one of the most wonderful surprises I watched in 2025, and it will stay with me forever.
And just like the character, I found myself thinking:
"Suddenly, life made sense."
