Disclosure Day (2026)

Lucas.June 16, 2026Amazing movie. The way the information is disclosed is very unique. It pushes you right to the limit of "what is going on" but never sends you over the edge. Everything connects wonderfully. Emotionally powerful finale. Has that classic Spielberg feel. Can't wait to watch it again.

Jaws (1975)

K AugustJune 12, 2026Over fifty years ago, Steven Spielberg created the summer blockbuster, the film that made his career, and the one that kept us all out of the water. I was at a very young and too-impressionable age when I saw it on television back in the eighties...and I avoided the neighbourhood pool. I could understand what fear of the unseen meant, and I knew that I was watching one of the most perfectly constructed movies of all time. And I was lucky enough to finally see it with a crowd when I went to a theatre for a classic film night. They screamed, laughed, jumped out of their seat, and responded much like the kid I was staring at that screen, staying away from the water.
Thank you, Steven.
Let's go for a swim.

Running Scared (1986)

K AugustJune 12, 2026A charming buddy-cop film that should have been a bigger hit than it was (maybe even leading to a series, much like 'Lethal Weapon'), I watched this film back in the 1980s, and I wondered if I would ever see another film like this in that big, bad era of explosions, endless bullets, and plenty of bodies for our entertainment. 'Running Scared' wants to amuse us while we root for Crystal and Hines to make it to the end and save the day...and those rookies who are clearly a threat to their prestige.
And maybe they deserve that retirement!

The Warriors (1979)

K AugustJune 12, 2026One of the best New York films of the late seventies, and one of the films I would push on anyone who wants to know what a director and a cast can do with a limited budget, unknown cast, and a script that is truly original, raw and keeps you guessing to the very end.
Viewers, come out and play...

Backrooms (2026)

Lucas.June 5, 2026Incredible inventive and unique concept. Super strong acting performances (I especially loved seeing Chiwetel back on da big screen). Idk if metaphor is the right word... allusion? allegory? Whatever it was, I loved what Backrooms was getting at. Brilliant ending, which, the more you think about it, the more it leaves the film open for a sequel. It also flew by: 110 minutes felt like 40.

Some Like It Hot (1959)

K AugustJune 3, 2026I'm still a fan, even with how ridiculous the whole set up is to me now: two musicians dress up as women to hide from mobsters who want to leave no eyewitnesses to a murder. And they end up with Marilyn Monroe (one of her best performances, I think), and a millionaire who provides one of the greatest final lines in any comedy I've seen (No spoilers; if you have not seen it yet, go and watch it right now). Such a delight to look back on this one on the centenary of Ms. Monroe's birthday.
We all need a laugh right now.
