There are battles where soldiers see the enemy coming. This was not one of them. Inspired by documented historical events, Defiance is an epic historical war movie that immerses audiences in one of the most harrowing military engagements in American history. Major Francis L. Dade leads 108 U.S. soldiers north from Fort Brooke through an endless wilderness of towering pines, dense palmettos, and unforgiving swamps. The officers believe the greatest danger has passed. The men march with discipline, determination, and confidence. On December 1835 one hundred eight U.S. soldiers march into the unforgiving Florida wilderness believing they are carrying out a routine mission. Unbeknownst to them, every step draws them closer to a meticulously planned ambush that will become one of the defining battles of the Second Seminole War. Drawn from historical research, military records, and eyewitness accounts, Defiance is not merely the recreation of a famous battle. It is the story of ordinary men confronting extraordinary circumstances, of warriors defending their homeland, and of a single morning that forever altered the course of Florida and American history.
