Marty Supreme (2025)

StevenCsMoviesDecember 31, 2025Is a movie inherently bad if the protagonist has almost no redeeming qualities? Josh Safdie’s new dark comedy MARTY SUPREME puts that question to the test. It’s a riveting character study of a man who fully believes in manifesting his dreams, no matter the cost. Marty (Timothée Chalamet) is one of the top table tennis players. His goal is to make enough money to go to a big tournament in Japan. He’s a charismatic chaos magnet. He has ambition and a drive like no other. He’s a narcissistic shark that’s convinced himself he has to keep moving to survive. He’s a hustler that can sell shoes to an amputee. People are drawn to him, especially women. He gets involved with his friend Rachel (Odessa A’zion) and a retired movie star Kay Stone (Gweneth Paltrow). Both actresses do an amazing job with their characters, both showing power and vulnerability. Marty is actually very loosely based on a real guy named Marty Reisman. This movie is as chaotic as its star. It’s set in the ‘50s but has a soundtrack from the ‘80s. It goes to wildly unpredictable places. It has a fantastic fast pace that makes the 160-minute runtime fly by. Chalamet is yet again at the top of his game, giving his best performance to date. The score and needle drops are also award-worthy. If you liked UNCUT GEMS, you’ll love MARTY SUPREME. There’s legendary cinematography by legendary cinematographer Darius Khondji. A movie can get away with having an unlikable character if there’s something about them that’s fascinating. Marty is supremely that. Overall, MARTY SUPREME is a chaotic ride that’s entertaining and crowd-pleasing the entire way through, and it might just be in my top 10 of 2025. Remember, dream big, but don’t lose what matters most to you in the process. Happy new year!

Lucas.December 31, 2025A small film with a good heart and some great neo-western vibes. You have to give it some benefit of the doubt, because there are obvious issues, particularly with some of the acting, but the story it's trying to tell is good and I enjoyed watching it. Has some beautiful shots of Colorado as well.

Lucas.December 31, 2025The spiritual successor to Uncut Gems, this movie has a ton of energy, great performances, a strong script, a beautiful look... it's kind of the full package. What I loved the most was the depth of nearly all the characters; everyone seemed to be living their own lives in this world, not just living to assist the protagonist. Who knew a movie about pingpong could be so engaging?

Lucas.December 31, 2025Watched this all the way through for the first time over the holidays. It lived up to the hype. Non-stop humour and still family friendly. A fantastic film to watch with the fam over the holidays, when everyone is full of turkey and can barely keep their eyes open. Some great performances and, like I said, loads of quality humour.

Lucas.December 31, 2025This movie really worked for me. The action was amazing. The IMAX 3D was spectacular. I loved the framing of the story -- it was simple yet effective. Jake Sully is in full boss mode. Meanwhile the villains were top notch. Even if I didn't understand entirely the purpose behind the conflict, I was fully engaged and enthralled by the film. Might be the best of the series (but I need to rewatch the original).

Anaconda (2025)

StevenCsMoviesDecember 30, 2025I have never gotten into the ANACONDA franchise. I didn’t even know there are now 7 of them. My first foray into the franchise is the newly released ANACONDA (2025), which is a sequel/reboot/comedic reimagining. In this world, best friends Griff (Paul Rudd) and Doug (Jack Black) are having a bit of a midlife crisis. Griff is a struggling actor while Doug is a struggling director, making wedding videos. They are both huge fans of ANACONDA (1997), so when Griff has the idea to reboot it, they travel to the jungle with their friends Kenny (Steve Zahn) and Claire (Thandiwe Newton) along with a very passionate snake handler Carlos (Selton Mello). I was having fun for quite a bit, enjoying the very meta humour and the “inside baseball” film industry humour that most people might not catch. The movie starts off very self-aware and silly, then it inexplicably peters out. It tries to be more earnest. It adds a plotline that nobody asked for, feeling shoehorned in. The snake kills were bad. The script is all over the place. The dialogue was strange. This was surprising, since it’s directed by Tom Gormican, who previously made THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT, which I really loved. I guess he tried doing what 21 JUMP STREET did, going from semi-serious to comedic. I guess lightning didn’t strike twice for him. Newton is completely wasted here, having almost no personality and having almost nothing to do. I had a few chuckles, but not nearly enough for a comedy. My main problem is this movie knows it’s dumb, thinks it’s smart, then forgets to be dumb at a certain point. It tries to be TROPIC THUNDER but can’t sustain it. I love the concept but the plot gets overcomplicated and it loses its fangs halfway through. Apparently, one of the funniest scenes in the movie was filmed during reshoots. Overall, if you have nothing better to do, at home, feel free to pop on ANACONDA.

Alex SoutheyDecember 29, 2025These mostly serve as a reminder to put your phone on silent mode.
I enjoyed this. Maybe even more than the first, although it's less focused in its tone and overall genre. It's going for more. At the same time, it almost feels like some sort of weird lesbian sexploitation-lite? Like the main character is bisexual and in this she sleeps with a few different women, but it's all sort of portrayed as like straight male fantasy lesbians. That's how it seems anyway.
This is like a modern, lesser, but still self-aware and fun, 80s-90s erotic thriller throwback. It's the kind of thing streamers always should've been attempting considering the (I think?) low budgets. Script-wise.. Shakespeare, it is not. But it gets the job done.

Alex SoutheyDecember 29, 2025One or two cool songs in the soundtrack. Some cool shots (it's the nature of showcasing social media influencers I suppose). As for it being a thrilling thriller or a scary horror... so-so.
Fun enough and simple / modest enough to warrant a second if audiences liked it and I guess they did.

StevenCsMoviesDecember 29, 2025Back in 2009, legendary director James Cameron gave us AVATAR, a movie that blew our minds and our eyeballs with cutting edge 3D visuals and a new alien world to explore, Pandora. Then he had to literally invent new technology to create the sequel THE WAY OF WATER in 2022. He had also filmed his newest installment simultaneously, which has now released, FIRE AND ASH. Following the aftermath of THE WAY OF WATER, the Sully family is in mourning. Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) is taking it the hardest, blaming all “pink skins”, even their adopted human son Spider (Jack Champion). He has a much larger role in this movie. Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is still alive and kicking, still on the hunt for Jake Sully (Sam Worthington). This movie introduces another Na’vi tribe called the Mangkwan, a fiery and savage group who have shunned the goddess Eywa. Their leader is Varang (Oona Chaplin), a badass wildcard of a character. Both Varang and Spider are great characters, but they’re a little underwritten. Same goes for the new tribe itself. They do flesh out some of the characters we already know, such as Quaritch and Kiri (Sigourney Weaver), the eldest daughter. The more I think about it, the more the story feels like the most expensive soap opera ever. The action, while repetitive, is top-notch. The visuals are the main reason to see this on the big screen in 3D. It’s a spectacular spectacle. Pandora is a fully realized world like none other. It helps if you think of this movie’s story as the second half of THE WAY OF WATER. That being said, there are quite a few things here that are overdone and repetitive. There is one aspect that they introduce in the third act that intrigues me, but they don’t really dive deep enough here. I probably need to wait until the next one for that. The high frame rate could be jarring for some, but my video game mind liked it. It was very immersive, making me feel like I was on Pandora. Despite the run-time being a self-indulgent 3 hours 17 minutes, I was never bored. As I may have said about THE WAY OF WATER, visuals can only take you so far. Yes, they are world-class and deserve awards, but we’re now three movies in. At this point, I need more from this franchise. I need a compelling story that makes me care about these characters. I need more variety in the action. I need the kids to not get kidnapped anymore. I need these movies to be shorter. AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH doesn’t really have any of these, but I still recommend watching this in 3D, the way it was made to be seen. Even if this is the final movie (yeah right), what James Cameron has done here will be talked about for decades.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (2025)

StevenCsMoviesDecember 27, 2025
StevenCsMoviesDecember 27, 2025Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Not sure? Well he’s absorbent, yellow, and porous. You still don’t know? He has a new movie called THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS. Fry-cook SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) is obsessed with proving to his employer Mr. Krabs (Clancy Brown) that he’s a “big guy” and not a bubble blowing baby boy. After accidentally losing Mr. Krabs’ official swash-buckling certificate, he and his very best friend Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) summon the terrifying Flying Dutchman (Mark Hamill) to guide them to the Underworld. This movie is just fine. The humour is aimed at younger kids who weren’t even born when the series was on. There are entirely way too many “butt” jokes. It was first developed as a direct-to-streaming film, and I wish they stuck with that plan. I hate to say it, but I think I’ve finally outgrown SpongeBob and his antics. That or the filmmakers aren’t interested in keeping us aging fans, no ifs, ands, or butts. I lightly smiled at most of the funny parts one joke even made me laugh out loud. In my opinion, this is nothing special. I did enjoy seeing Clancy Brown and Mark Hamill. Oh yeah, if you think you’re in the wrong theater, this film is accompanied by an animated short called TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: CHROME ALONE 2 – LOST IN NEW JERSEY, which is fine. Overall, if nautical nonsense be something you wish, go see THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS.

A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas (2011)

GreameDecember 24, 2025
GreameDecember 24, 2025A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas is loud, crude, ridiculous, and unapologetically stupid—and that’s exactly what makes it such a great Christmas movie. It fully embraces the chaos of the Harold & Kumar franchise while wrapping it in holiday insanity, over-the-top 3D gags, and surprisingly sincere emotional beats.
The humor is outrageous from start to finish, packed with absurd situations, wild cameos (Neil Patrick Harris remains a franchise MVP), and jokes that know they’re crossing every line possible. The 3D gimmick could have been annoying, but the movie uses it mostly as a meta joke, which makes it part of the fun rather than a distraction.
What really elevates the film is how it balances the insanity with themes of friendship, adulthood, and reconnecting during the holidays. Beneath all the weed jokes and outrageous moments, there’s a genuine sense of warmth that makes it feel like a true Christmas movie—just one aimed squarely at adults.
It’s definitely not for everyone, but for fans of the series or anyone who enjoys raunchy holiday comedies, this is an easy yearly rewatch. Dumb in the best way, surprisingly heartfelt, and endlessly entertaining, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas has earned its place as a cult Christmas favorite.

Entertainment OverviewDecember 23, 2025
Entertainment OverviewDecember 23, 2025This Christmas special stands on its own and continues the storylines left unresolved. However, it doesn't quite manage to provide a satisfying conclusion to all the plot threads. Furthermore, it repeats several of the mistakes of the second season, such as making the protagonist unbearable at many points. Where it doesn't disappoint at all are the musical numbers. All of them, as always, are well-produced and performed.

Entertainment OverviewDecember 23, 2025It's impossible not to enjoy this show. It's made to make you feel better. Every cover is performed with passion, although not all of them have an interesting coreography. The characters are endearing, even when its protagonist doesn’t actually is very likely to follow, specially in season 2. I hope, someday, more people get to know this show.

The Housemaid (2025)

StevenCsMoviesDecember 23, 2025
StevenCsMoviesDecember 23, 2025What do you get when you have 3 gorgeous people living in an extremely posh house? You get THE HOUSEMAID, based on the very popular 2022 book written by Freida McFadden. This is directed by Paul Feig, who has made some of my favourite female-led comedies, such as THE HEAT, SPY, and BRIDESMAIDS. He takes a different approach with this one, which is an erotic thriller. Millie (Sydney Sweeney), desperate for a job, gets one as a live-in maid for Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). No, not the supernatural Winchesters. These Winchesters are very rich and fancy. All is not what it seems though, as is often the case. I had such a fun time watching this unfold. The first half slowly sets things up while the second half has a payoff that is extremely satisfying. It’s best to go in blind for this one. This movie knows exactly what it is and doesn’t hold back. It also really knows what audiences want from this experience. It’s a true guilty pleasure. It’s the equivalent of sneaking to the fridge at night and diving into a tub of ice cream. You know it might not be good for you, but damn it you deserve it. It’s a satire on class. While Sweeney is the main actress of the movie, Seyfried steals the show. She is delightfully unnerving in this. There’s great chemistry between the 3 of them. There are a couple side characters that are underutilized, one of them played by Elizabeth Perkins. Whatever you think of Sweeney as a person, she finally picked a good one here. Despite the pointed dialogue and it being a little too long, I had a great time with THE HOUSEMAID. Bring your girlfriends to this one, and remember, actions have consequences.
