Cinéfila ConsumidoraApril 8, 2026An interesting and thoughtful coming of age story. The performances of Elijah Wood and Kevin Costner seem to keep you more focused on the film than other elements, but still, it is a carefully crafted production. Though its duration could be a bit shorter.

Cinéfila ConsumidoraApril 8, 2026An interesting portrait of everlasting love and how metaphorically the cryogenic experiment serves as a way to make time stop so you don’t feel the pain that you were caused. Basically cute and entertaining.

Lucas.April 7, 2026Shot on Vancouver Island, this movie looks great and it has wonderful pacing to match. The scares are pretty slim until the end, but it makes up for that with some quality humour and an intriguing mystery.

K AugustApril 7, 2026One of the best films of this young century so far. An odd creature of celluloid, but one that made me a fan of the director, appreciate the talent of Colin Ferrell, and remember what movies can do: make the imagination paramount and take you to places that have never been considered before.
Watch it closely, and watch it soon. 🐕

K AugustApril 7, 2026I once posted a comment on this film that made my complaint with religion clear: "Why is it that the deeply religious are the last people I would like to spend an eternity with in an imagined afterlife?" A lot of positive comments came my way, and most of my readers understood why I dreaded such a prospect.
It was their lack of a sense of humour.
The Monty Python troupe hit it out of the park with this one, and it is still the funniest, bravest, and most relevant film about religion that I've ever seen.
It does not blaspheme. It makes things too crystal clear for us.
One final quote: "I wish I had written the script for it."
That was from... Anthony Burgess, the author of "A Clockwork Orange"!
Now, go out and watch it a hundred times...or I'll chop your balls off. 😉

K AugustApril 6, 2026Why do I keep coming back to this particular Kubrick film? Yes, I agree that '2001', 'Barry Lyndon' and even 'A Clockwork Orange' might be better films, but this is the one that I always return to when I want to see his genius taking shape. And I think that this is the work of his particular oeuvre that will never age as long as human nature remains the way it is. We have insanity in our politics, stupidity in our leaders, and weapons that we barely understand. But we also have this film, its magnificent performances (Sellers was supposed to play four roles - just think about that), and a tale that may be too close to the truth.
Protect your precious bodily fluids, folks, and watch this one.

The Drama (2026)

StevenCsMoviesApril 6, 2026Do you really know the person you’ve chosen to spend the rest of your life with? In the newly released A24 romantic drama THE DRAMA, this is just one of the questions being asked and explored. It’s written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli, whose last film was the wacky DREAM SCENARIO. Charlie (Robert Pattinson) and Emma (Zendaya) are getting married in a week. During a wine tasting with their friends Mike (Mamoudou Athie) and Rachel (Alana Haim), they play a game of “What’s the worst thing you’ve ever done?”. When it gets to Emma’s turn, she says something that they can’t unhear. The chaos that unfolds is very hard to look away from. At this point in the movie, you as the audience will subconsciously determine whether or not you’ll stick with what this movie is trying to do and say. The marketing team set this up as a romantic comedy, creating false expectations. Yes it has romance and comedy, but it has so much more, with amazing performances to back it up. We watch these characters go through the process of rationalizing, and it is riveting. With the wedding date looming over their heads, it becomes extremely stressful, making me sweat. I had visceral reactions like that throughout this experience, especially after it was over. There is so much to unpack, but I don’t want to overanalyze it here. The movie has unique editing that really worked, it’s riveting, polarizing, and frantic. I love, respect, and appreciate it when a director gets risky and bold, swinging for the fences. It deftly handles a dark subject matter in a comedic way. It talks about the difference between infatuation and love. After really thinking about it, I loved the ending. Overall, THE DRAMA absolutely lives up to its name, giving you a hilarious but heavy movie that begs to be talked about afterwards. The more I think about it, the more I love it.

StevenCsMoviesApril 2, 2026From Kirill Sokolov, the director of WHY DON’T YOU JUST DIE, comes an original(?) movie called THEY WILL KILL YOU. It’s about an ex-convict Asia Reaves (Zazie Beetz) searching for her sister in the Hotel Cali- sorry, Hotel Virgil, where people randomly disappear. This is the second week in a row where a devil cult tries to sacrifice a fierce young woman, last week being READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME. I had a little more fun with this one, having a unique twist and way more gore. I mean, there’s a random kid named Damian for Satan’s sake. The villains could’ve been a little more fleshed out, no pun intended. I did enjoy Patricia Arquette, Tom Felton, and Heather Graham, all having a blast with their villainous roles. It has fun editing and camera work, with bombastic, quirky music choices. The practical effects mixed with CGI are so fun to watch come together, sometimes literally. It doesn’t take itself seriously, until it sometimes tries to. It’s very cheesy and silly. This could’ve been THE RAID with a devil cult, but it just doesn’t reach those heights. It has just enough of a story. It’s an amalgamation of directors such as Quentin Tarentino, Wes Anderson, and Sam Raimi. Other inspirations stem from comic books and video games. It has a literal boss battle at the end. It feels a little shallow compared to its inspirations, but it’s amazing bloody action scenes and great use of practical effects makes it stand out enough. Watching somebody kill evil rich people will never get tiring. The structure might get repetitive for you, but the badass Beetz carries this movie through the unique beats and bloodletting. This movie knows what it is and doesn’t stray too far from that. Overall, THEY WILL KILL YOU is an easy breezy 90 minutes of carnage candy fun.

The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol (2025)

Lucas.April 2, 2026
Lucas.April 2, 2026It's a sentimental and pretty movie. It has a cool pace with the memory of the old man enforcing the quickness of the memories. However, the dialogue is grating (I watched a dub) and doesn't match the "immortal" dialogue of the protagonist character. And it brushes past some serious topics that really didn't need to be included in a biopic about a poet/screenwriter/filmmaker.

K AugustApril 1, 2026A confession: I had not been to the theatre in a while, but I had a free ticket after last summer's continued volunteer work with Fantasia Film Festival, and this was playing. And I'm glad I took a chance on it. Maybe the recent news of a drop in ticket sales is true, but to see these two star in a "Back to the Future" inspired film about fame, friendship and fate made me proud to know that this was made near my old stomping ground (Golden Horseshoe boy from Hamilton).
One of the funniest, silliest and just plain original films of 2026.
And my final confession: I had not seen or heard a damn thing about these two or their show, but that extra "N" keeps this 90s GenXer intrigued and willing to go back to see what other spectacles they created.
And I didn't even spoil this review...
Now, where's that Orbitz (it's an acquired taste)?

kleeder silvaApril 1, 2026At first glance, Mark seems like an ordinary teenager with nothing special about him: a quiet life and present parents. However, his family keeps secrets that an average person couldn't even imagine. His father comes from another planet and, by a twist of fate, stops being the conventional hero of this story to show us a much more complex side.
It is an impeccable screen adaptation. Its unique style blends drama with dark comedy in moments of peak tension, making our smiles spontaneous. That touch of humor releases us from the burden of seeing our favorite characters "losing their teeth," softening the visual rawness with an entertaining script.
I invite you to join them on this adventure, one where there is no black or white, but rather different realities of a truth of their own.
