One of the best films of this young century so far. An odd creature of celluloid, but one that made me a fan of the director, appreciate the talent of Colin Ferrell, and remember what movies can do: make the imagination paramount and take you to places that have never been considered before.
Watch it closely, and watch it soon. 🐕

The first half of the film is captivating, with its magical realism and bizarre survival rules. But after the protagonist escapes the hotel, the plot becomes less engaging, turning chaotic and dull, which diminishes the impact of the film’s open-ended conclusion. Whether choosing marriage or remaining single, the psychological and emotional constraints are ever-present.

In a society where being single is a crime and where a rebel faction outlaws love, breaking either set of rules means being turned into an animal. This premise is intriguing enough to draw the audience in. The deadpan performances add a layer of quirky dark humor, though the film’s content could have used a bit more depth.

Lanthimos has such a powerfull way of introducing us to his absurd scenarios, to talk about universal and mundane subjects that are actually so important to us. Crazy

An enchanting satire on the absolutism and inevitability of romance. We weave narratives of falsehoods about the regulations and motivations of love, crafting formulas to guide us toward a destiny marketed as purpose. When these rules become daunting, we instinctively rebel, choosing to exist beyond the confines we perceive as stifling.

Dystopian love story

This is one of Lanthimos' less forcefully jarring works because it's clearly a love story, but it still never lets you feel completely at ease. Everything from the pacing , to the acting and visuals is somewhat unsettling and suggests there is an underlying conversation going on which honestly is up to the viewer to interpret as they like. It's also not devoid od cryptic and deadpan humor that makes us take a long, hard look at ourselves and our society's conventions. It's a great film.

The abstract in cinema

With complex performances and a dystopian story, Yorgos Lanthimos turns cinema upside down with this movie, one of the strangest in his filmography.
