“Acting was something that came very easily to me. It fell in my lap. But the people I admired the most were not really movie stars”. Ethan Hawke is an American actor, screenwriter, and director. During his teenage years, he aspired to be a writer but developed an interest in acting and began performing in theater at the age of 13. His first film appearance was in Explorers (1985), and after graduating high school, he studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. However, he dropped out to focus on his career following the success of Dead Poets Society (1989), which brought him widespread recognition. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films, including Reality Bites (1994), Gattaca (1997), Training Day (2001), Richard Linklater’s trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight), Boyhood (2014), First Reformed (2017), and The Black Phone (2021). He has been nominated for four Academy Awards: two for acting (Training Day, Boyhood) and two for screenwriting (Before Sunset, Before Midnight). In addition to his film work, Hawke has appeared in many stage productions. He made his Broadway debut in 1992 with Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 2007 for his role in Tom Stoppard’s The Coast of Utopia. He was previously married to actress Uma Thurman, with whom he has two children, including actress Maya Hawke. With a career spanning acting, writing, and directing, Hawke has built a versatile profile within the film industry.
