In the vast restaurant of existence, there are those who dine and those who become the feast. Raimundo Nonato discovers an unconventional path, a life uniquely his own: he cooks to survive and carve a niche in society. Arriving in town with empty pockets, he secures a job as an assistant in a run-down bar, a grim place amidst the urban wilderness. Sleeping in the storage room at the rear, he learns the art of frying "pastel" and "coxinhas" under a cold neon light, outshining his "master," Zulmiro, the bar's owner. Nonato may be uneducated, but his culinary talent is evident, catching the attention of others. The first to notice him is Iria, a prostitute with no cooking skills but a love for food, sparking a romantic involvement. Subsequently, Giovanni, owner of the Boccaccio (an Italian restaurant in the neighborhood), offers Nonato an apprenticeship. However, a series of events leads to Nonato serving time in prison. Among the inmates and their formidable leader, the violent Bujiù, Nonato becomes a savior; soon, their humble meals transform into a banquet of exotic dishes orchestrated by Nonato's culinary magic. As a result, Nonato earns the fitting nickname: Rosemary.
