In a dystopian future, the totalitarian Capitol selects one boy and one girl from each of the twelve districts to fight to the death in the annual Hunger Games, televised for all to see. When Katniss Everdeen's sister is chosen as tribute, Katniss volunteers to take her place, and with her fellow tribute Peeta Mellark, she must fight for survival and challenge the cruel system that rules their world.
