lalyInly7April 6, 2024Aleksandr Sokurov condensed a big work into this two-hour movie. Although he made some changes in the presentation, it's clear that style wins out over substance in this film. The characters are well-portrayed, and the storytelling is nearly flawless, which elevate this film as a piece of art. It feels stylish, but exhausting. It highlights many accomplishments in filmmaking, yet it doesn't quite resonate with me emotionally.

Santos_LandersApril 6, 2024This movie is based on Goethe's classic "Faust." It kicks off with some intense and edgy scenes, but then it slows down and can be a snooze fest. The visuals have an artsy feel, with some truly stunning shots. While I haven't read the original book, I can imagine that understanding the deep philosophy in this film would still be challenging, even after reading it. Honestly, I don't feel like watching it again because it was already a struggle for me to get through it the first time.
