The title says it all: women are invisible in a man’s world, and the sisters are invisible in each other’s lives. From home to body to ambition, the film exposes the subtle and brutal ways patriarchy renders women unseen. All the sisters have is the imagined version of each other’s lives to keep going.

I watched the film clinging to the hope that the sisters would reunite, only to be crushed when the narrative leaps into old age. The moment we see the elderly version of one sister, it becomes clear they never found each other again. I had hoped Guida would break free and chase her dream of playing piano, but she ends up burning that dream and spending 67 years with the man she escaped to. The sisters remained invisible to one another—and women, in a patriarchal society, remain invisible to the world.

The use of color in "Invisible Life" is extraordinary—every frame looks like a painting. The contrast between the cold tones of Guida’s oppressive home and the warm, vibrant world she runs into is especially striking.
