While the adaptation preserves most of the original 1930 script’s dialogue and structure, the director’s contemporary sensibilities modernize the setting and the cast imbues the story with heightened dramatic and comedic nuance, which deepens the thematic resonance of this remake.

"Holiday" has well-written supporting roles while its primary character development feels somewhat forced. Katharine Hepburn delivers a radiant performance and effortlessly embodies her character’s free spirit. The puppet theater scene during the small New Year’s Eve party on the fourth floor is particularly memorable as it both enlivens the moment and crystallizes the film’s central themes.
