I'M TIM: The documentary that meant a lot to me
General ReviewsI know I already talked about this topic many times, but you know what?
I WILL DO IT AGAIN.
There were so many films that meant a lot to me this year, but I wanna do an special article for my EDM angel. I know it's a challenge too, but I'm going to take advantage of it to be reborn for the thousandth time and also have fun joining.
A New Year, A New Chapter – December 31 2024

Hours before the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve, most of us were busy counting down to 2025, making resolutions, and raising a glass to fresh beginnings.
A day before the celebration, my phone buzzed with a notification: "‘I’m Tim’ – Avicii documentary now streaming.”

A film about a legend whose music had already woven itself into the fabric of my life arrived on the very last day of the year.
I got back home, I pressed play, and what unfolded was far more than a chronicle of chart‑topping hits; it was a tender, unflinching portrait of Tim Bergling, the human heart beating behind the EDM empire.
From Party Anthems to a Personal Narrative
Avicii, the moniker that filled stadiums from Tomorrowland to Coachella, was never just a name on a flyer. He reshaped electronic music, proving that synths could dance hand‑in‑hand with acoustic strings, that a drop could trigger a collective gasp, and that a Swedish teenager could become a global pop‑culture icon.

But “I’m Tim” pulls back the curtain in a way few documentaries dare to do. It talks about his birth, his childhood and teenage era, the monster we call manager, the rise of “Levels,” the whirlwind tour schedules, and, most poignantly, the quiet moments when the fame‑machine throttled his life.
The film doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable truth: the price of a crown is often paid in solitude, anxiety, and an ever‑present whisper of “not enough.”
A Childhood Soundtrack

If you grew up in the 2010s, you probably recognize the opening bars of “Wake Me Up” humming through grocery aisles, birthday parties, and even the rhythmic clatter of a dance‑class studio. I was no different.
Avicii’s name was a constant, but the person behind it remained a mystery. Until a fourth‑grade research assignment on musicians led me to choose Avicii. My classmates were busy sketching pop‑star silhouettes; I was scrolling through a Wikipedia page that revealed a “charismatic and smiling boy.” In that moment, Tim became my very first “famous crush.”
The Unanswered Question: Why Did He Stop Touring?
As a child, I could not undertabd why the endless parade of concerts halted.
I remember whispering to a friend’s mother, “Will he ever come back?” She laughed, “He’s just taking a break, mija.”
The truth, however, was far darker: an overwhelming pressure that no teenager should shoulder. I held onto hope, saving every pocket‑money coin from school bake sales, convinced that a “Comeback Tour” would be my ticket to Tomorrowland as a Quinceanera trip. I was dreaming, unaware that the final act of my idol’s story had already been written.
The Day the Music Stopped
Fast forward to a dull physics class in high school. My iPad lay open, a Google news alert flashing: “Tim Bergling, 28, found dead.”
The room hummed with equations while my heart thudded in a different frequency. I stifled tears for three whole periods, only to break down in the bathroom during recess.
The grief was instant, raw, and, as I later realized, never truly healed...

BTW I went to Las Vegas GP and they started playing Levels while interviewing Oliver Bearman (Who kinda looks like Avicii for me), also DJs started to play "Without You" and "The Nights". Wanna know about my adventure? Check out my TikTok!!!!

Back to the topic!
The first minutes: A Flood of Emotion

The opening sequence is a masterclass in emotional storytelling. We see an ultrasound image, then a montage of a newborn Tim’s first breath carried by his mother, some childhood memories, his birthday parties, school pictures, his teenage bedroom...
I found myself sobbing uncontrollably, my chest tight, breath shallow. It wasn’t just nostalgia; it was a visceral recognition that the boy whose life was taken by a monster called Ash Pourrini and more people behind was the same child who played with Lego trucks while accompanying his famous mother, Anki Liden, on interviews. The documentary rewired my brain chemistry, it was a reminder that we, too, are fragile and deserving of compassion.

Why Remember Tim, Not Just Avicii
Avicii’s influence on EDM is indisputable; his tracks are still the lifeblood of festival afterglow. Yet, the true legacy lies in the vulnerability he displayed, even if it was posthumously broadcast. Even people like his true Wifey, Racquel Natasha, shared their vulnerability and the future they deserved with Tim.

He fought against an industry that demanded perpetual perfection, and his story forces us to ask: What do we expect from our creators?
When the lights dim after a set, the DJ steps off stage, and the world forgets that behind the headphones sits a person who feels loneliness, anxiety, and longing, exactly as we do. “I’m Tim” is a harsh reminder that fame can be a gilded cage, and that every chart‑topping anthem carries an untold personal cost.
A Call to Action: Watch, Reflect, Change

If you have ever tapped your foot to “The Nights,” if you have ever felt a fleeting sense of escape while the bass pumped through your veins, I urge you to watch “I’m Tim.”
Watch with an open heart: Let the early footage of his childhood dissolve any mythic distance.
Reflect on the price of brilliance: Consider how your own expectations, whether as a fan, a promoter, or a friend, might add invisible weight to those you admire.
Honor his memory beyond playlists: Support mental‑health initiatives for artists, foster environments that prioritize wellbeing over relentless output, and remember that every song is birthed by a human being.
Including Tim Bergling Foundation!!!!!
Closing Thoughts: A Year Defined by Empathy

The final frames of “I’m Tim” linger on a memorial with orchesta, childhood videos, fans shaping hearts with their hands, and Tim singing "Without You" with his colleagues. In the silence, the documentary make us ask: What will we carry forward?
For me, 2025 started not only after countdown of seconds, but with a promise to honor Tim Bergling not just as the EDM titan whose beats moved millions, but as the boy who dreamed, struggled, and ultimately taught us that true greatness includes the courage to be vulnerable.
May 2026 be a year where we celebrate the music and the makers, where we listen with both our ears and our hearts, and where we create a world that sees the person behind the fame.
Press play. Feel. Remember. Change.
