• Introduction

On December 31, 2024, "I'm Tim" was released, a deeply moving documentary that invites us to delve into the life of one of the kings of EDM, Avicii. This documentary does not only limit itself to exploring the musical trajectory, but also reveals its most authentic essence, showing the human being behind the EDM phenomenon: Tim Bergling, from his birth to his last moments of life and tribute.
Avicii not only left an indelible mark on electronic music, redefining the standards of the genre and creating anthems that resonated at parties and festivals around the world; his influence extended to pop culture as a whole. As well as being the one who showed that you can combine electronic music with traditional instruments. However, what moves us the most and makes us reflect is the price that is often paid for fame.
This documentary has been one of the most emotional I have seen, evoking memories of my own childhood and the small moments of my life that were worth gold.
• Avicii: Beyond the DJ

Before "I'm Tim", there was another documentary called "Avicii's True Stories", presenting itself as a more raw and realistic portrait. Through hidden camera recordings, phone calls and intimate moments, this documentary allows us to glimpse the man behind the DJ, an artist who struggled with loneliness and sadness in the midst of a world that idolized him.

In "I'm Tim", the narrative expands, presenting new perspectives on his life and career. Although some aspects are repeated, the emphasis is on a more human and emotional approach. It is here that the importance of key figures in his life is highlighted, such as Philgood, his best friend since childhood, who was a fundamental pillar in his career.

• The duality between his professional success and his personal struggles

Avicii's success did not come without a price. His manager, Ash Pournouri, although influential in his rise, also represents the dark side of fame and I didn't like him, leading Tim to have many problems with his physical and mental health. He was even one of the main culprits of introducing him to drugs and alcohol, and doesn't regret it. It's also been claimed that he forced him to pr*stit*1 himself, saying he pushed him to give female fans quality time doing what anything wanted. While there's no direct evidence of him saying this, there are possible clues that it happened at some point and even joked about discreetly. But we don't know.

BEWARE OF THE MISINFORMATION YOU SEE ONLINE TO AVOID ANY CONTROVERSY!!!! SHOW THEM YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT TO THEM, BY GIVING THEM A PERSONAL SPACE THEY DESERVE TO RELIEF AND ENJOY TIME FOR THEMSELVES AND LOVE ONES!!!!!

It is also understandable that his parents, who loved him very much, made him feel pressured by the life they both idealized in their son after the success of his talent and made him earn a fortune. Especially the reputation of his mother, Anki Lidén: an important European actress whom Tim did not want to let down.
One of the most shocking moments of the documentary is Tim's death, and he made me cry quite a bit. First, I was shocked when Tim talked to Neil about going to Oman in a hopeful way in relation to the way Jacobson told it, I can tell that at that moment I was begging him not to go even though I already knew how it would end. Aloe Blacc, Tim's friend and collaborator, talks about the creation of "SOS," and made us realize what a cry for help it was.
• The Struggle With Mental Health

In a series of confessions that resonate with candor, Avicii shared his internal struggles. He recalled a time before he achieved fame, when he felt happier and more authentic. His comment about finding “the magic cure of having a couple of drinks” before shows reveals how, in his quest to relax and enjoy his art, he ended up relying on substances that offered him temporary happiness, but in the long run contributed to his emotional emptiness. This contradiction is a reflection of the internal struggle that many artists face: the pressure of being a public person and, at the same time, the need to be authentic.

Avicii repeatedly expressed his disdain for being “Avicii,” the public persona, and longed to be able to simply be Tim, his true self. This dichotomy between public and private life can be devastating, creating a sense of emptiness that is difficult to fill. The music industry, often obsessed with numbers and statistics, can dehumanize its artists, transforming them into consumer products rather than recognizing their essence as human beings.
Avicii longed to “break free from it all” and find happiness in what he had already achieved, rather than constantly chasing an idea of success that did not belong to him. His desire to learn to be content is a call to action for everyone, both inside and outside the industry. The pursuit of happiness should be personal and not dictated by fame or external recognition.
The constant pressure to perform, to always be in the public eye, and to meet expectations that are often unattainable can lead to profound suffering. It is essential that both the industry and fans recognize the humanity behind the talent and open a dialogue about mental wellbeing.
Personal reflections

The fact that it was released on the last day of the year was something very surprising and even beautiful for me. When I was a child, his songs were played everywhere: restaurants, birthday parties, the radio, in stores, and even in my dance class.
I always had his name in my mind and I wasn't interested in knowing who the person behind it was until, in an elementary school research activity, we were given the topic of musicians and I chose Avicii. The person behind it was a charismatic and smiling boy, with whom I felt connected and became fond of, to the point of becoming my first famous crush.
I never understood why he would stop giving concerts since I was very innocent, but a friend's mother told me to hide the truth that she had a very strong stomach ache, but even so I always had faith that he would return. And I saved up for his Comeback Tour, which I thought was Tomorrowland France, with the money I earned from my school sales, or the money gifts they gave me.
There was a period of time when I forgot about him in high school because of my studies until I ran into one of his friends on Twitch and started watching his live streams, which also included Tim. I would watch these after school, post supportive comments and even remedies for the stomach ache since I also got sick a lot when I was little. The live streams always gave me a little bit of faith to encourage Tim to come back to the stage and that I could see him when I go to high school or college with my friends...
Until the day came...
I remember being in high school physics class working on my iPad while the teacher was explaining. When I opened Google, a celebrity news notification appeared saying that Tim had died. I tried not to cry for the next 3 hours of class, and when recess came, I went to the bathroom and cried. Although it seems like I got over it, the truth is I haven't; It was in 2021 that I remembered him again but it was not until mid-2024 that I adored him again.
This documentary altered my brain chemistry, I know that every time I watch it again no matter how much time has passed I will continue to cry like the first time. The first few minutes of the documentary I could not contain myself and I began to cry seeing more images of Tim's childhood caused an explosion of emotions at that moment, where I cried with the ultrasound and his first minutes of birth.
And I am glad that they have not given details of his death; however, it changes the perspective of the famous theory: Tim was not silenced by someone, but someone forced him to silence himself (Even his own inner demons), taking advantage of his vulnerable state.
The dark side of the industry that promised him fame and talent in exchange for his dignity made him make the decision between "Die as a simple artist or live long enough to be a star." He took the first knowing that he wanted to be himself and could have his own success without having to get into trouble. But he knew there were innocent people he met along the way and he wanted to do his part with his music, even if it cost him his life.
That is to say, the threats from the supposed organization, along with the pressure, the haters, the idealization, and the lack of authenticity, led him to that state that took his life.
He was not silenced by anyone but his inner demons that were result of the living hell he was put through, however they weren't too strong to stop him from being the savior he was, who use his wisdom, creativity, and humility who saved and inspired millions.
We can see it in the following:
1) Although few know it, Tim had a blog Tim but it is Lost media where he revealed several things in the form of innuendos such as poems or sayings about activism of human rights. And in the beginning he mentions it since it is the same blog where his manager contacted him.
2) In the middle of the documentary, they play For A Better Day but without mentioning the procedure of the song as with others. They put it at the moment when Tim begins to feel vulnerable and fight to heal.
3) His true self: Tim was honest and wanted to be an inspiration to many, he was authentic and honest. They talked about how expressive he was when something bothered him.
4) The last song with Aloe: Before he died, he sent the song SOS to Aloe as a signal for help as if something or someone was chasing him. However, he did not give details of what it really meant but he did conclude that he was asking for help because something or someone was not letting him live in peace.

• The importance of remembering and honoring the memory of Avicii

It is essential to remember Tim not only for his music, but also for the vulnerable person he was. He was someone who, despite the pressures of the industry, tried to remain true to himself. His story is a harsh reminder of the price that artists often pay in pursuit of fame.
Conclusion

It is essential to keep Tim’s memory alive. His story is a powerful reminder of the human cost of fame and the importance of prioritizing mental health.
Tim’s life, especially when looked at in depth, is a poignant reminder of the struggles that are often hidden behind the glitz and glamour of fame. “I’m Tim” is not just a tribute, it is a wake-up call asking the industry to value its artists as human beings with goals, lives and dreams.
I invite readers to watch the documentary and reflect on Tim’s journey. Let us remember Avicii not just as a DJ, but as Tim, a person with dreams, struggles and a heart that longed for connection and genuine happiness. His memory deserves to be honored not just with our favorite songs, but with a commitment to creating a world that sees the human being behind the artist.
