Penélope Cruz’s beauty alone deserves 10 stars. This movie reveals a dark truth: widows are widows because they’ve all killed their husbands.

Infusing its outrageous energy with a touch of realism, Volver is a vibrant burst of hope, desperation, and grief. Almodovar skillfully navigates multiple female perspectives, aiming to unravel the unbelievable intricacies surrounding death in this wonderful film.

Stunning

Though confusing at points, once you understand the world we're in in the film, you really get how deep it cuts emotionally, especially because it's so visually stunning and Penelope Cruz is such an amazing actress. Considering the themes the film deals with, I was surprised (but not really) at how clever and smooth the comedic timing is, while still unabashedly bringing forth the issues women deal and have dealt with for a long time, with sensibility, elegance, and style.
