Jarhead follows Anthony "Swoff" Swofford, a U.S. Marine who volunteers to join the Gulf War. The film shows his journey from boot camp through grueling desert training to deployment in Saudi Arabia and into Kuwait. Based on Swofford's memoir, it focuses on the boredom, frustration, and mental toll of waiting for combat that may never come. When Swofford and his unit eventually enter Iraq, they experience brief, chaotic moments of war. The movie ends with Swoff returning home, changed and struggling to adjust to civilian life.
