Riddick (2013)★ 6.7/10

The film opens with an overly stylized barren landscape and cheap-looking CGI creatures, reflective of its low budget. After enduring a tedious monologue and a brief recap of the previous installment, the story finally picks up. The ensuing battles of wits and humor between the characters are engaging and far surpass the misleading trailer.

I found this film oddly compelling. Watching Riddick endure the brutal conditions of an unforgiving planet had me questioning why he didn’t just give up. Yet, his refusal to surrender—even when gravely injured and cornered by monstrous creatures—was profoundly moving. Perhaps that resilience is the life lesson I need: to keep fighting on no matter what.
