Snowden (2016)★ 7.2/10

The most shocking thing about the whole movie is that it's actually real.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's performance in Snowden is excessive, and it's ultimately overshadowed by the real-life presence of Snowden in the final moments of the film. While Snowden is portrayed as brave, but in the end, he's changed nothing, and the surveillance state continues to exist.

Incredible movie, amazingly paced, and an impeccable performance by Gordon-Levitt, I was surprised by that, honestly. I just really find the casting of Shailene Woodley a too odd, but doesn't hurt too much.

Let's just say there were peaks and valleys, shall we. The peaks were great, the writing was awesome; but those valleys really lost me, I was really bored by the basic oh-so-obvious white people drama fest, I don't know, I've seen it once and I'm good.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt achieves a great performance of Snowden, a character who became famous for leaking secret documents of the United States government that violated the freedom of its own citizens.

Edward Snowden’s story is one of the most important of modern times, and this movie is a perfect means to spread his message even further. A story where love and duty become conflicted, but where truth will always prevail.
