The Devil Wears Gap

General Reviews

The Devil Wears Prada 2 returns to the screens after 20 years and the same cast and crew, except some notable absences are back.

The story follows a more mature Andy Sachs, now an established journalist, returning to Runway as features editor to help a vulnerable Miranda Priestly navigate the decline of traditional print publishing. They face a new corporate reality, clashing with Emily, now a high-powered executive of Dior, who controls needed ad revenue

It‘s Not Better Than The Original

The first movie is luxurious, fashionable and watchable, the sequel tries to reinvent the wheel in focusing more into the media journalism and how so many times they are overshadowed by corporation. It‘s a great concept, interesting and deep, but for a movie like The Devil Wears Prada doesn‘t match in style.

The movie has elements that are fun to watch, the cast is still doing great after 20 years, and director David Frankel does a very good job of mainteining the quality, the essence of the first film, but also improving the passing of the years, and the fashion transition into a new era.

It lacks Jokes

The first film has plenty of memorable jokes, and the script uses a lot of this into the brain and psychology of the characters, but the sequel tries to balance the serious tone, and for moments, it gets too serious for a movie that didn‘t want to get there in the first place.

Meryl Streep plays once again Miranda Prestley, but this time her character is different, it‘s not the same one from the first film, and some folks find it lacking in substance, I thought this was a very interesting evolution of power and humbleness. Anne Hathaway is excellent and their chemistry is one of a kind, it is what powers this movie to succeed.

Doesn‘t Justify His Existence

What I found about this film to be particulary negative is that the plot is thin and pointless. Every character ends up in the same position as the beginning of the film. The sequel felt lacking in adding some more substance, after 20 years, we want something to happen.

Conclusion

Although, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a decent sequel, it‘s also watchable, but the soul and the warmth of the first film is completely gone.

I had a pretty similar reaction; I wasn't opposed to it but it just felt like it could have been a short epilogue at the end of the original film. I also felt that it really had no plot... it was all just betting on our nostalgia and it worked!
