VIFF´25: Knives Out - Wake Up Dead Man
General ReviewsKnives Out Mystery: Wake Up Dead Man is the latest entry in the Knives Out movies and is directed and written by Rian Johnson and stars Josh O‘Connor, Glenn Close, Daniel Craig, Jeremy Renner, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaneny, Kerry Washington and Josh Brolin
After being transferred to this strange church, Father Jud needs to let go of his past and face his demons when he meet Father Wicks and Martha, and he takes care of the grounds, but after a murder is commited, Father Jud starts to resolve the crime with the help of Benoit Blanc.

This is the most funniest entry of the franchise
Wake Up Dead Men is the funnier film of the bunch and the most interesting one, because in this particular film it doesn‘t matter who is the killer, but rather how the crime was commited. Rian Johnson has crafted another film that is perfect and getting the setting of a church is rather a nice change of pace.
Johnson comes up with the best script that he‘s ever written, delivering good laughs, great twists and turns and more developvement for the character of Benoit Blanc. This movie deserves to be seen in the biggest screen possible. The jokes land, even the facial expressions of some of the characters are what this movie is going to be a success.

The cast
Every Knives Out film is a wonderful to guess who the cast is going to be. This time around, Josh O Connor leads the cast and offers one of his best performances to date, and Daniel Craig seems to have fun in the role, also Jeremy Renner is having some fun time playing a character after his fatal accident and Glenn Close is outstanding in the role. Every actor pours his soul into this movie and the results are extraordinary.

The Whodunnit
Rian Johnson crafted a mystery that has a touch into the supernatural realm and with the final twist revealed, is almost impossible not to stand up and laugh. It‘s absolutely one of his best works as a writer and director. The score is great, cinematography and costume design are one best aspects of the film.
But, Wake Up Dead Men stumbles on the way with a slow pacing at the beginning and having a lot of time setting up the murder. The murder itself takes it time and approach to get going and the plot to be moving, but eventually it finds their way.
Knives Out: Wake Up Dead Men is another spectacular entry of the franchise and the one that was close beating the first movie.

Opens in theaters in November and goes to Netflix in December.
