Nostalgia, done properly
RecommendationsAfter almost 20 years, I got to watch another Wallace & Gromit feature film.
The Wallace and Gromit franchise, is a particular one. Different to other ones, it hasn't been constantly presented to us, making us excited for everything that's new when it comes to this iconic duo. This film is a great example of how one can properly do a sequel, without overdoing the “nostalgia” factor that Hollywood has tried to milk in the post-pandemic world.
The premise is interesting, since it slightly touches with themes like debt and the ethical responsibilities we have with technology. It deals with friendship and how highly we should value it. It brings back Feathers McGraw, an iconic character from the short “The Wrong Trousers” from the early 90's. Which I must say has the best chasing sequence EVER. The silent yet machiavellian persona that hides by doing nothing other than removing a glove as his helmet. McGraw, plots against Wallace & Gromit by trying to convict them from a crime by hacking into their newest invention “Norbot”.
If you ask me sincerely, nothing will ever be better than the short film “A Grand Day Out With Wallace and Gromit”, made in 1989. I rewatched this constantly, as I did all of the films of this franchise. But they did wonderfully making me feel like a kid again. As I watched this movie, I was reminded of drinking chocolate milk and having quesadillas for dinner once again (a classic dinner if you are Mexican). My heart stopped when Gromit feel onto what appeared to be the end for him. I felt a joy only animated films can only give you when the good guys win, even though you always knew it was gonna happen.
If you once watched this movies when you were younger, I invite you to do so again. Since it does what it should do, and nothing more, make you have a great time. My only hope is that I do not have to wait that much to have something else
