A young microbiologist, Lyusya Polikarpova, who did not get into graduate school in Moscow, returns to her hometown. There is no job in her specialty there, but she manages to get a job as a laboratory assistant in a factory laboratory that monitors industrial emissions. Her new boss Ilya, an enviable bachelor, immediately identifies a promising employee. And soon Lyusya becomes his main assistant and deputy. One day, the heroine reveals the deception: the indicators of harmful emissions turn out to be underestimated. And from that moment on, the hunt begins for her.
