Tolya is a modest doctor at the district hospital, a favorite of the children and invisible to his superiors. He lives with his mother, dreams of recognition, and is hopelessly in love with the striking nurse Diana. When Tolya agrees to cover for a friend on the night shift, everything goes awry: men break into the hospital with a wounded crime boss, Oleg. At gunpoint, Tolya saves his life and receives an unexpected "gift": a new MRI machine and the eternal duty of "being on call." From that day on, his life is divided into two shifts: the day shift, for the children, and the night shift, for the gangsters. And the deeper he gets into this, the harder it becomes to understand who he's really saving: the patients or himself.
