- The Ropes follows the McKelvies, a dysfunctional yet lovable family obsessed with backyard wrestling in Kitchener, Ontario. After a blackout bender, patriarch Bevin McKelvie wakes to discover he has wagered the family backyard, home to their wrestling ring and legacy, to his rival Troy "GG" Moyer, also known as the "Graveyard Goose." Troy gives them an ultimatum: raise forty thousand dollars or lose their place in the league forever. As Bevin and his fiery wife Marina scramble to win it back, the family runs into quirky characters, outrageous matches, and spectacular disasters. Through bruises, brawls, and ridiculous lessons along the way, The Ropes is a heartfelt underdog story about family, pride, and the community that keeps them wrestling in the backyard.
