Storyline
Otto, the father of the family, has been accustomed to the rhythm of life on the farm for decades and has to be painstakingly convinced by his employees that modern farming technology can make life much more pleasant. Daughter Elisabeth - known as Pitti - has just started school, but she still lacks the necessary sitting skills to actually concentrate on learning day after day. Perhaps the "stupid" tilting bench that grandfather Lindstedt uses as a pedagogical move will help? And son Hannes is also giving his father Otto a headache: Together with a man from the neighboring village, he steals seeds from the cooperatives' storehouse for an unusual experiment: sowing grain in winter. Grandfather Lindstedt's great pride and joy are his bees - until they discover that they can feed themselves much more easily in the nearby sugar factory than by laboriously flying from flower to flower. The result: the honey is black and more like syrup, so the disappointed grandfather gives up his beekeeping with a heavy heart.
