- Storyline
- In the historical fiction series "The Wonder Team," which airs both on television and on Instagram, viewers experience the rise of the legendary Austrian football team from 1931 onward against a backdrop of social and political tensions. Following a dispute, star player Matthias Sindelar (played by Lukas Hanus) is recalled to the national team by coach Hugo Meisl (Christian Strasser). After a legendary press conference, the winning streak begins with a 5-0 victory against Scotland. After a 6-0 win against Germany in Berlin, the German press hails the Austrian national team as a "Wonder Team." Besides Sindelar, this team includes Fritz Gschweidl (Valentin Haag), Karl Sesta (Nikola Naydenov), and the prolific striker Anton Schall (Nils Arztmann). Schall falls in love with the football-mad factory worker Elisabeth Fuchs (Maya Unger), who initially feels drawn to Matthias Sindelar. Broken hearts are inevitable, but they do not stop the team's meteoric rise - which is documented and broadcast to the world by sports reporter Millie von Ostenhoff-Peng (Sarah Zaharanski).
