After suffering a concussion in a war zone, Major Konstantin Andreev is transferred to St. Petersburg and assigned to an elite criminal investigation department. He is partnered with Artyom Belov, a seemingly frivolous young man, the son of a general, who seems to have everything in his life in order. But over time, it becomes clear that they share a passion for their work and for human destinies. Together, they encounter a series of cases that reveal a carefully constructed system of "shadow justice," where the concepts of law and justice are blurred.
