“I was a chorus girl. That's all I ever wanted - to be onstage. I would queue up for auditions and then change my costume or put on a different leotard and audition again. It might take me two tries, but I always got the job. I figured out what they wanted.” British actress and singer, she was able to demonstrate her versatility by playing a variety of notable roles, among which stands out that of the murderess Velma Kelly in the musical Chicago (2002) for which she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She showed interest in entertainment since she was a child, appearing in several musicals, but it was not until the early 90's that her name was recognized when she was part of the drama/comedy series The Darling Buds of May (1991), which was a great success and made her one of the most recognized television actresses in the United Kingdom. Already settled in the United States, especially in Los Angeles, she participated in some television productions but her role in the miniseries Titanic (1996) caught the attention of director Steven Spielberg, who chose her as the female lead for The Mask of Zorro (1998) alongside Antonio Banderas. After gaining worldwide fame following this success, Zeta-Jones starred opposite Sean Connery in the thriller Entrapment (1999) and played the wife of a drug dealer in Steven Soderbergh's multiple Academy Award-winning Traffic (2000). She then appeared opposite George Clooney in Intolerable Cruelty (2003) and Ocean's Twelve (2004), before reprising her role as Elena in the sequel The Legend of the Zorro (2005). Towards the end of the 2000s, her projects became more sporadic, including No Reservations (2007), Rock of Ages (2012), Feud (2017), and Cocaine Godmother (2017). One of her last roles was playing Morticia Adams in Wednesday (2022), a horror/comedy adaptation of the renowned The Adams Family (1964-66).
