“First of all, I choose the great roles, and if none of these come, I choose the mediocre ones, and if they don't come, I choose the ones that pay the rent.” Michael Caine is an acclaimed British actor known for his long career in film and his particular English accent. He had his beginnings working as a production assistant in a theater, and there he developed his passion for acting. He gained recognition as one of the most famous actors of the 1960s thanks to his role in Zulu (1964), and later acted in Alfie (1966), where he received his first Oscar nomination. Over the years, Caine increased his prestige as an actor, portraying more complex and demanding roles. He appeared in more than 100 films, including Sleuth (1972), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), California Suite (1978), Victory (1981), Sweet Liberty (1986), Mandela and de Klerk (1997), Little Voice (1998), and Now You See Me (2013). He also lent his voice to films such as Cars 2 (2011) and Gnomeo & Juliet (2011). He has collaborated with Christopher Nolan in several of his films, including the Batman trilogy, Inception (2010) and Interstellar (2014). Caine won two Oscar Awards, one for Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), and another for The Cider House Rules (1999); he also won three Golden Globes for Best Actor and one BAFTA. He announced his retirement in 2023, at the age of 90, leaving a vast legacy. His iconic performances will continue to inspire and entertain future generations.
