“What keeps me going as an artist is my interest in society's obsession with identity, because I'm not sure I really believe that identity exists.” Tilda Swinton is a cult British actress, renowned for her distinctive acting style and versatility. She began her acting career working with the Royal Shakespeare Company. These first steps in the theater laid the groundwork for her later transition to film. Her first films were with director Derek Jarman: she made her debut with Caravaggio (1986). This role introduced Tilda to auteur cinema, a terrain that would define much of her later career. She is best known for the roles in the film version of Virginia Woolf's novel Orlando (1993) and in Michael Clayton (2007), which won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Swinton has explored various genres, working in films such as The Beach (2000), Constantine (2005) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008). She also played the White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia films. She collaborated several times with director Wes Anderson in films such as The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014) and The French Dispatch (2021), and even participated in the Marvel productions Doctor Strange (2016) and Avengers: Endgame. Among her most acclaimed works are We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011), directed by Lynne Ramsay, and Suspiria (2018), where she once again demonstrated her ability to take on intense and complex roles. Throughout her career, she has actively supported LGBTQ+ rights, and her commitment was not limited to activism alone, but was also reflected in her choice of projects, which challenge conventions and explore diversity in its many forms.
