한국의 문화와 역사를 알아서 비로소 감독의 모든 의도가 느껴지는 영화.
그래서 외국 사람들의 시선으로 바라봤을 때, 이해가 가지 않는 내용과 와닺지 않는 부분이 많은 수 있다고 느낀다. 하지만 나는 한국의 역사를 공부한 한국인 이기에 이보다 더 무섭고 사무치는 감정을 느낄 수는 없었다.
배우들의 연기와 미장센에 휩쓸려가듯이 영화는 전개되어 나갔고, 짧지 않은 134분의 시간동안 나는 단 한번도 눈을 뗄수도, 다른 생각을 할 수도 없었다. 내가 느끼는 이 감정을 그리고 이 영화에 내제되어 있는 속뜻들을 외국인들에게 설명해줄 수 있는 기회가 있다면 좋겠다.

The movie has potential, despite the disjointed narrative. The first half, rich in folk traditions like exhumation rituals, Feng Shui, and shamanistic practices, sets a compelling tone. But the second half shifts into ghost folklore, blending Korean history with colonial trauma, attempting to add deeper meanings. However, in trying to reinvent the concept of supernatural , the movie ends up feeling neither here nor there, and it lacks the eerie subtlety needed for true horror.

The movie is over two hours long, but it never felt draggy. The film's unique concept, paired with a standout performance from the lead actress, makes it so engrossing. Some scenes are terrifying beyond words, yet they deliver an almost cathartic thrill.

O filme tem potencial, apesar da narrativa desconexa. A primeira metade, rica em tradições populares como rituais de exumação, Feng Shui e práticas xamânicas, estabelece um tom atraente. Mas a segunda metade muda para o folclore de fantasmas, misturando história coreana com trauma colonial, tentando acrescentar significados mais profundos. No entanto, ao tentar reinventar o conceito de sobrenatural, o filme acaba não causando muita coisa, e não tem a sutileza misteriosa necessária para o verdadeiro terror.

Pero, al intentar reinventar el concepto de lo sobrenatural, la película no termina ni aquí ni allá y le falta la sutileza espeluznante necesaria para el verdadero terror.

O filme tem mais de duas horas de duração, mas não foi cansativo. O conceito único do filme, aliado a uma atuação de destaque da atriz principal, torna-o muito envolvente. Algumas cenas são aterrorizantes além das palavras, mas proporcionam uma emoção quase catártica.
