Johnny is a father and son story. Sad though it is, it is also an uplifting story about doing what you love in this life above all else. Having the courage to be who you are and to go for it, is very much the story of Johnny Owen. It is not a biopic. It is about a boxer, his father (and trainer) and his manager, three Welsh naive innocents, awaiting a world-title fight. It is a character examination, a human film.
