Split Second (1992)★ 6.4/10

The damp, decaying cityscape creates an immersive atmosphere, and the chase sequences deliver solid bursts of tension. While its B-movie roots mean low-budget effects and limited monster screen time, the film earns its cult following with its gritty charm and unapologetically grimy aesthetic.

This British sci-fi action-horror hybrid wears its influences openly, borrowing heavily from "Blade Runner" in its rain-soaked, futuristic urban sprawl and from "Alien" in the design of its monstrous antagonist. The dystopian setting, combined with a hard-edged detective lead, gives the film a pulpy energy.
