This film reflects postmodernist cultural traits, with themes that are deliberately ambiguous or eschewing depth altogether. It substitutes Freud’s Oedipal complex with a daughter’s maternal fixation, resolving the fraught and damaging relationship between mother and daughter through heartfelt conversations.

Almodóvar is the only director who makes me watch a movie simply because his name is on it. I really enjoy the way he portrays women, and the characterization and story structure are always excellent.

The movie's choice of color scheme is bold and contrasting. With her ultimate role model being her mother, the girl eventually turns against her because of jealousy. In the end, the mother forgives her daughter and saves her.

Every time I watch Pedro Almodóvar, it is always a reminder that I should learn Spanish.

After watching the movie, I felt like the production wasn’t that great at the time. But Almodóvar boldly embraced coincidences and twists, making the story incredibly engaging. As for the constant repetition of certain plots and colors in his films, that doesn’t bother me at all. I actually like it.

Talvez Almodóvar estivesse numa encruzilhada criativa aqui.
