Monsieur Hulot, a charmingly clumsy man, struggles to adapt to his sister's suburban, ultra-modern lifestyle while valiantly clinging to the charm of his city apartment. As his family attempts to marry him off and secure a job, Monsieur Hulot's endearing quirks clash with the relentless march of modernity, resulting in a series of comical misadventures.
