Cabin boy Dick Sands takes the place of the dead captain and leads the ship "Pilgrim" to Africa, not to America, because the vile villain and slave trader Negoro has put an axe under the compass. So the fifteen-year-old captain, the shipowner's wife with her little son, the professor and the crew were captured by people living on live goods.
