Despite its somewhat rough character development, plot, and themes, Hero, a series over two decades old, remains captivating. The characters are given some negative traits but are fundamentally just prosecutors upholding justice. This deliberate contrast enriches the characterizations. Takako Matsu’s portrayal of the clumsy and bumbling new officer is charming and endearing.

I recently grew to truly appreciate Hero for its human touch. The show depicts ordinary lives with no thrilling suspense or gripping mystery. Takuya Kimura completely embodies a prosecutor filled with humanity. Watching Hero makes me ponder if everyone approached their work with responsibility and humanity, what kind of world would we live in?

9.2/10. The cinematography, color palette, and action sequences are excellent. Yimou Zhang was clearly confident while making this film, which is a true masterpiece. Every frame is carefully put together, with no shots wasted. The storyline is remarkable and believable, blending artistic touches with a solid historical base. Yimou Zhang's earlier works really set the bar high when it comes to combining cinematography and color.

I checked out the 110-minute director's cut and was really touched by its simple but powerful minimalist vibe. Even though some say it lacks spiritual depth, I can still feel the warmth it brings. I'd rather go back to this one than rewatch "Ashes of Time" or "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon."

After all these years, I rewatched this film and discovered its many strengths. It paved the way for a new wave of Chinese blockbusters and excelled in aesthetics. The action sequences and color schemes work together harmoniously. While it might not have the same soulful depth as Kar Wai Wong’s films, it still deserves praise. Unfortunately, some reviews have unfairly criticized this movie.

Incredible combat scenes

With a masterful art direction, this beautiful film shows us the artistic and spiritual side of martial arts framed in a political story, with incredible combat scenes.
