Leslie is in a state of stoic shock six days after the disappearance of her daughter Ivory when Detective Strauss pays her a visit to begin the investigation into her whereabouts. Right away his bedside manner leaves something to be desired as he asks to see Ivory's social media posts and comments on her looks. Strauss notes some sort of shadowy presence in the home, but shrugs it off. The tension builds as Leslie grows more tense and frustrated with his questions and tone deafness. Finally, when he suggests that Ivory likely ran away or invited a predator by posting racy photos online, Leslie kicks him out. Strauss thinks he notices the shadowy presence again as he leaves the house, but continues on his way. In his car in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant Strauss suddenly is struck by a series of unnatural tremors before seemingly disappearing into thin air after the shadowy presence appears once again. In her own car, Leslie drives through a residential neighborhood as a news story on the radio informs us that the full police force is now dedicated to the search for Detective Strauss. Ignoring the story, Leslie parks and proceeds to place posters of Ivory throughout the neighborhood leading the search for her daughter on her own.
