This is the tale of a man who, after more than a decade in isolation abroad, returns to seek vengeance for his brother's death. Inspired by the writings of Henry David Thoreau, he is translating 'Civil Disobedience' into Portuguese. The story unfolds between 1908 and 1910, spanning from the assassination of the Portuguese King and Prince to the establishment of the Portuguese Republic—an era marked by clashes between anarchists opposing the monarchy and common criminals. In a land rife with corruption, state representatives engage in robbery, wrongful arrests, and murder of the innocent. The protagonist confronts the tyranny of the state while striving to protect his remaining family. Yet, in this country, change remains elusive.
