The Denis of today would make it much better and less silly, but it is still a spectacle in many ways

Best alien movie ever

Interestingly, for those who've read the novel before watching the film, the experience mirrors that of the protagonist's ability to see her future life. The film's narrative pace is somewhat slow, but the art direction and music are exceptional.

"Arrival" might not be the best sci-fi film, but it is certainly the best sci-fi arthouse film. Denis Villeneuve, no matter the genre, always manages to subtly infuse it with his distinct style. Without having read the source material, I could still grasp the film's portrayal of the melancholic ability to perceive time in its entirety.

Denis Villeneuve is incredibly reserved, profound, and introspective. The plot comes full circle, and the real heart of this story lies in the mother-daughter relationship, while the science fiction elements simply serve as a backdrop. Right from the start, the director skillfully establishes the tone and then dives straight into the narrative, skillfully breaking the linear timeline and allowing plenty of room for our imagination to soar.

I was immediately hooked on this film within the first 5 minutes. The emotions and sentiments were so well portrayed that even the arrival of the spaceship and subsequent communication efforts seemed a bit lackluster in comparison. But luckily, the film built up to an exciting climax towards the end. Overall, it's a film with a simple starting point but a truly grand theme. It's not just another "Interstellar" or "The Martian," but more like "The Tree of Life." It makes us question life. Would you still enjoy the whole process if you knew the story's beginning and ending?

This novel isn't exactly the first thing you'd think of for a movie or TV show, but surprisingly, this film adaptation captures the heart of the original work. The film explores the themes of communication and isolation, showing how we have no idea that, on some level, we're all trapped in our own bubbles of assumed superiority and biases. Also, it emphasizes the need for connection and understanding while challenging our perception of time. Overall, it’s a thought-provoking film with philosophical undertones. It's not your usual straightforward sci-fi flick.

Good Sci-fi

Arrival is the story of Dr. Louise Banks, a linguistics expert, who along with her team, must interpret the language of aliens who have suddenly downed on Earth in a mysterious spaceship. A pretty intriguing premise and another great performance by Amy Adams.

An interesting perspective on language

This is one of the newest and most interesting alien movies of the genre. A proposal that explores the notions of language and its relationship with our ways of perceiving reality.
