The small fire department in an idyllic Swiss village on the border with the "Greater Canton" is slated to merge with its German counterparts. Captain Hans Ziegler suggests to his colleague Steinke that they determine who will lead the joint Swiss-German fire department through a firefighting competition. An accident disrupts the competition preparations. Hans, who hates everything German, is hit on the head. Afterward, he speaks only German with a peculiar Berlin accent. This cerebral disorder, known as foreign accent syndrome, is very rare and linked to damage to the language center.
