Cinematographic Risk
I have to give props to Gia Coppola, because this film is incredible in many aspects. The dialogue, the characters, the production design are the things that I loved the most. Everything was a great representation and reflection about the message that this film wanted to portray.
HOWEVER.
I do not agree with the choices made framing and focus wise. I will never be a fan of soft focus. Maybe, if you are racking. But as a choice? No. I am sorry but that is a hard no for me. I do not understand how you're going to have a soft focused film, when you have Jaime Lee Curtis and Pamela Anderson absolutely killing it on camera. My other question about it, is that at some parts of the film, we are in a close up when I think we should be on a wide, and vice versa. Now. There may be a lot of reasons why those shots are in that order, and that is not always up to you. I just have to say that it took me out of it, a lot of times because I felt like I wasn't with the character.
So, my question here is, how much is risking in cinematography worth it? Is there a thing such as doing too much that things can get lost? Or is it always a personal taste that people will not always agree with? (Especailly snobs like myself)
