The starfish
Reseñas generalesThe Starfish
One peaceful morning, as the golden light of dawn spread across the horizon, an old man decided to take a walk along the beach. The tide had just receded, leaving the sand shimmering and wet. As he walked, he noticed something strange: thousands of starfish were scattered along the shore, stranded by the retreating waves.
The old man frowned as he looked at the countless starfish lying helpless on the sand. “What a waste,” he thought. “There’s no way to save them all.
As he continued walking, he saw a figure in the distance. It looked like someone was dancing on the beach, bending down and spinning toward the ocean. Curious, the old man approached.
When he got closer, he realized it was a young boy. The boy wasn’t dancing—he was picking up starfish and throwing them into the water with all his strength.
The old man smiled, but he couldn’t help asking,
Good morning, young man. What are you doing?”
The boy glanced up briefly and replied,
I’m saving these starfish. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die in the sun.
The old man chuckled and looked around. The beach stretched endlessly, and there were thousands of starfish lying in every direction. Shaking his head, he said,
“But there are so many! You can’t possibly save them all. What difference can you make?
The boy paused for a moment, then bent down, picked up a starfish, and tossed it into the waves. Turning to the old man, he said,
It made a difference to that one.
The old man stood still, thinking about what the boy had said. After a moment, he bent down, picked up a starfish, and threw it into the ocean.
Together, the boy and the old man worked side by side, throwing starfish into the water, one at a time. They couldn’t save them all, but for every starfish they returned to the sea, it was a second chance at life.
The Lesson:
Every small act of kindness matters. Even when the problem seems overwhelming, the effort you make can change the world for someone—or something—in need. Keep making a difference, one step at a time.
