The character of Hannibal is the construction of a man, a novelist named Thomas Harris, the character named Dr. Hannibal Lecter is a psychopath. In the 2001 film, he is again played by the British actor Anthony Hopkins (Mr. Hopkins played him in the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs).

This character is very captivating for the audience that loves the horror, suspense, and drama film genre. On this occasion, we have a plot that mixes different traits of humanity, namely, we have: dedication, respect for the laws, commitment to good manners, fulfillment of the oath, and attachment to the truth, all embodied in the character of Clarice Starling played by actress Julianne Moore.

We also see other human traits that are not uplifting as those of Clarice. We see greed, avarice, lies, omissions, disregard for life, manipulation, revenge, sadism, and many others in the following characters: Giancarlo Giannini. Insp. Renaldo Pazzi., Ray Liotta. Paul Krendler., Gary Oldman. Mason Verger., Zeljko Ivanek. Dr. Cordell Doemling.

All these characters hatch a plan to try to catch the dangerous Dr. Hannibal Lecter. The plan is to tarnish and harm the reputation of Agent Starling, who, as a result of an FBI action before all these events, Agent Clarice had to remain low profile. Despite this situation, the FBI agent continued to research the feared doctor.

In this challenge of “Misunderstood Geniuses”, we must realize that the character of Hannibal is one of the most attractive to study. This character masterfully combines good taste, elegance, education, good behavior, impeccable verbal expression, a unique degree of intelligence, and a love for the classical arts (music, painting, sculpture, and the study of history) among many other qualities.

On the other hand, he has a cold, calculating mind, powerful ferocity, quick actions without measuring the consequences, always steps ahead of the thoughts and actions of those who interact with him and, if that were not enough, he is a ruthless murderer, a cannibal of his victims in addition to enjoying his violent actions, which generate joy and entertainment for him.

In this film, we can observe the handling of the sex about Agent Clarice, both to harm her reputation and in the context of Dr. Lecter's behavior towards Agent Starling. This turn in these characters leaves behind what was previously seen. That it was a relationship of mutual respect and admiration, due to the degrees of intelligence and code of humility and frankness on the part of Agent Starling and vice versa.

It is important to mention that Dr. Lecter has a high-class European origin, which influenced his personal development in addition to the traumatic events he experienced during the Second World War as a child. We must understand that in every film plot in which the character of Dr. Lecter is present, he was, is, and will be the mastermind that drives the plot, script, and/or adaptation of the story to be told.

To complement the written lines, we are in the year 2024 and a character has not yet been created that can surpass the intellect, culture, and horror that Doctor Hannibal Lecter represents.
