The romance in "Heart Eyes" felt contrived, and some conversations are so cringe. The twists were lackluster, and while the film initially made everyone seem like a suspect, the final reveal fell flat. The ending felt more rom-com than horror, and the attempts at humor didn’t quite land.

"Heart Eyes" is more of a chick flick with slasher elements than a typical Valentine’s Day horror. The film kept the theater filled with laughter. The standout scene was the couple’s heartfelt conversation in a car—a rare blend of romance, comedy, and horror executed seamlessly.

Valentine’s Day has never been for me, but I know it’s a big day for a lot of people. Here’s a fun movie I recommend this romantic season, HEART EYES. It’s a romantic comedy. Oh ya, there’s a violent slasher woven into the story as well. The Heart Eyes killer, A.K.A HEK, has been murdering couples on Valentine’s Day for a couple years now. Ally (Olivia Holt), a love skeptic who works for a jewelry marketing campaign, is on the edge of getting fired because of her “doomed romances” line. The company brings in an optimistic expert named Jay (Mason Gooding). Forced to work together through the night to save the company, they at first clash. Next thing you know, they’re being chased by HEK. The romance is actually good, with the two having great chemistry. The self-aware script gives good insight into both characters’ viewpoint on love. The movie also addresses dating culture without getting too cynical. The kills in this are perfectly creative and brutally violent. No couple is safe. This movie knows how to poke fun and embraces the campy nature of the story. This reminded me of the SCREAM franchise, but I enjoyed this more because it’s not just a fun slasher, it takes time to get to know the characters, making the audience care more about them. It has the “will they/won’t they” vibe, but it’s more like “will they die/won’t they die”. The two detectives here are hilariously named Hobbs and Shaw. A good slasher movie needs a good slasher, and the Heart Eyes killer is pretty cool. Cool mask with a “don’t get in my way” attitude. This is the real reason I’m single. I’d rather not get murdered. HEART EYES has the potential to become a franchise, it just needs to try to stand out on its own a little more. This was a bloody fun time.
