StevenCsMovies28 de septiembre de 2025A couple years ago, THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 1 was released to abysmal reviews. Sadly, it was just the first of a trilogy. Again sadly, they were all filmed at the same time, so they’re definitely coming out at some point. THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 2 has now come out. Let’s do this. I have taken another bullet for you here (another crossbow bolt if you will). It blows my mind how this franchise could go so wrong under the eyes of director Renny Harlin. This picks up right after CHAPTER 1, Maya (Madelaine Petsch) is in the hospital recovering from a stab wound, mourning the death of her fiancé. Thus begins the longest chase sequence in the history of movie-making. Petsch does a good job acting terrified, bringing more physicality in this one. She has that classic “Final Girl” vibe. Well that my friends, is the only positive thing I can say about this movie. Going in, I knew this would be bad. Question is whether it’s as bad as the first. The answer is yes, it’s even worse. For a franchise that’s supposed to be about the randomness of violence, it sure seems like they want to drip-feed you some kind of explanation, over the course of these movies. They’ve literally lost the plot. Stupid decisions are back with a vengeance. The script has too many conveniences. There’s a lack of tension because we know there’s a CHAPTER 3 coming out. Too many people die off-screen, probably due to budget restraints. As with the first movie, everybody in this small town is overtly weird and creepy, making Maya paranoid, constantly questioning who the killers are, while making it so silly and stupid for the audience. There’s an unbelievably stupid scene in the middle involving bad CGI that made me ask myself “Is this actually happening?”. All I’ll say is it had the same vibe as DiCaprio in THE REVENANT. We are now two movies in, and I still fail to see the point. The point of the original 2008 movie was so simple and good: “Why are you doing this to us!?” Because you were home.” Scary, no need for more explanation. Overall, THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 2 is a 90-minute chase sequence, with a few minutes of unwanted backstory. They have a teaser of CHAPTER 3 at the end, which, admittedly, looks somewhat interesting. I just know I’m going to eat those words when it eventually comes out. This trilogy could’ve and should’ve been one movie. “Is Tamara here?” No, now go away!
