James Patton5 de septiembre de 2024John Rosman's debut feature is a clever two-hander that invests you in the proceedings of its above average wetwork thriller setup only to veer left midway through, ratcheting up the stakes and testing a viewer's allegiance to their initially desired outcome.
New Life is difficult to recommend without giving away its most significant plot detail, so individual enjoyment will primarily depend upon whether you can stay on board with it past that point. For my personal taste, it amplified what was already working.
The central mystery as to why this clandestine organization is in pursuit of an ordinary woman was well-seeded until its unveiling, though it wouldn't have worked nearly as well had it not been for two sympathetic lead performances from our heroine and antiheroine.
